Answer» Hello there Guy's! I am making my own collection of favourite movies to DVD. (I used to do this to VHS) As with VHS, all the TV adds are copied as well. Does ANYONE know of a program that will edit my DVD's so that I can make them complete and then burn them back again please? You would need three pieces of software. A DVD 'ripper' which would convert the video from being on the DVD to a single video file on your computer. You can then open that file in a video editor of your choice where you would edit it. From there you would then USE a DVD authoring program to write the video back to a DVD you can play in your DVD player.
There should be plenty FREE programs that can do what is described above.Try dvdshrink to rip the dvd - you can author it straught to dvd (vob) format from there and burn it or save the files to disc.
If you need to convert files to/from VARIOUS formats - particularly to open and edit them in dvd editing software, try any video converter free - its also handy for converting movies to watch on phones, tablets, apple devices etc Actually I just googled anvsoft (any video converter website) and apparently the latest version will burn a dvd for you as well.
The version I have is supposed to have the functionality to set start and end times, however to be honest in my version that never works, and I did update to the latest version on a work pc - and from memory the interface was a bit clunky so I ended up sticking with my older version.... So what I am saying is I have found this to be great for converting files from various formats - and it supposedly will also let you edit - trim bits out and then burn to dvd, but that functionally didnt work as well as its conversion did in my experience...
I also didi a quick google and found these (no idea how good they are as I havent used - but are free)
http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-author/#Title3 (dvd authoring - says supports vob)
http://www.freemovieconverter.net/ This one rips a dvd to a movie file - which will give you a file on your pc that you can then edit in otehr software - I am wondering if I haveused a earlier version of this a couple of years ago - if it is the one I used - it was good, basic, but did a reliable job)

And there are a couple of free versions of their dvd maker and burner apps on this site
