Solve : Excel 2007 Conditional Formatting help?

Answer»

I HOPE someone can help me with a formula that I need.  I am using Excel 2007 on Win7.

Column B is a list (more than 8000 rows) of numbers in chronological order. I need a formula to find GROUPS of consecutive rows that sum LESS than -10% and groups of consecutive rows that sum GREATER than +10%.  For example,

03/11/09   -4.25%
03/10/09    2.38%
03/09/09   -0.64%
03/08/09   -4.66%
03/07/09   -2.36%
03/06/09   -1.58%
03/05/09   -1.07%
03/04/09    4.01%
03/03/09   -3.47%
              ---------
             -11.64%

This list is just 9 rows long, but it could be of any number of rows.
I expect that a Conditional Format formula, one for > and one for <,  is what I need to do a cell fill color to find these groups.  I just don't know how to write a formula to find what I want.
Thanks for all help. This is just my view of this but I think you have a bizarre requirement.  Have you tried to develop some pseudocode for this?  Your sample list is in descending chronological order.  Is that the order the data would always be in?  Perhaps some explanation of the nature of the data, i.e. what it represents, and why you want to do this would be helpful.

As I understand you, many or all rows would be subjected to numerous groupings of rows to be evaluated.  Is that a correct statement? Thanks Soybean.  Yes they are in the chrono order as shown.  The percentiges are results of calculating one days data as compared to the next days data.  After I sent in this inquiry asking for groups that are < and > 10%, I realized it will just be a never ending series of groups unless I specify a time frame such as monthly.  I need to rethink how I want my data to look.  Thanks for responding.  Daytona
