It is not going to help with just downloading files to be saved, such as software. I doubt the issue here has anything to do with Firefox. It has to do with his Internet connection speed with his ISP (Internet SERVICE Provider). What type (DSL or cable) of Internet service are you using? What is it's speed, as claimed by your ISP? Have you run any speed TESTS to see what your actual speed is? Here's one speed testing site you can try: http://www.speedtest.net/If you are an advanced user, you can change the firefox settings by typing "about:config" in the address bar. I used that procedureYou're still assuming the issue is the speed of Firefox rendering web pages, not just downloading files. We don't know for sure what the OP is asking and we won't know until he/she OP responds and clarifies what he/she meant. But, when someone says "download files", that, to me, means, for example, downloading Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or some other software download.
