Solve : Fonts changed in some cases?

Answer»

Yesterday, I suddenly began getting different, larger, and bolded FONTS displayed in just a few cases. One is warning messages (opening a file could be bad, and stuff like that) that are displayed when I am using Outlook. The other is in CCleaner. Most characters are displayed correctly in other programs, but in just a few they are strange.

The first strange thing that happened was that a certain font disappeared from my Fonts folder. I was able to install it again, but I haven't found a way to get the other problem fixed.

The only things I did before I noticed the problem was install Bioshock.
I also upgraded my graphics card driver (NVIDIA). I tried rolling back to the previous driver, but that didn't solve the problem.

Any ideas why MIGHT be happening? Or a way to restore all default font settings without a system reinstallation?

Vista Ultimate
Office 2003 Standard
(I got the same problem with Office 2007 Standard, which I had installed for an unrelated reason.)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.Travel Here to see a list of all the default Fonts in Vista...if you are missing any others replace them, re-boot and the condition should go away...Thank you!!! For some reason the Tahoma font had disappeared. I reinstalled it and the problem was fixed.

Do you know what kind of thing causes this to happen?Missing fonts ? ?

Any kids in the house ? ?

A bunch! But they know that if they get within 15 FEET of my computer they will suffer an ignominious death.

I've had to reinstall the operating system on the family computer a couple of times, though...All kinds of mysterious things getting messed up on that one. Maybe I should just give them a calculator and an Etch a Sketch.I just don't know of any instances where fonts would be overwritten/un-installed on a Windows system including malware related...

Best of Luck to you and Welcome to CH ! !Keep in mind, that there is always that 1% of computer problems, which fits into only one category: "Unexplained mystery".
