Solve : Free fax program? |
|
Answer» For many years I have successfully used a Cheyenne bitware fax program which came free with my first computer. In the past year I have gone on to broadband and I cannot get the program to work. Is there anything I can do to overcome this? Alternatively does anyone please know of a good free fax program that I can DOWNLOAD? I am using Windows XP Home editionYou can't send a fax from a computer without a direct phone line and a dial-up MODEM. Does your computer still have both of these items? Thanks for your reply. The old modem is still in place But the phone is connected via broadband, would I need a separate phone line ?Yeah, the old modem would still need a phone line in order to send a fax.You CAN send faxes, using cable connection: http://mailbag.ask-leo.com/_can_i_send_a_fax_using_my_cable_connection_009228.html http://ezinearticles.com/?Send-Faxes-Via-Cable-Internet-Fax&id=973284Thanks for these replies. I do not have cable but I think I can use the old modem and the phone line. You COULD try a SETUP like this. Theoretically, it should work. Look at the picture I've attached. Between the wall outlet and your DSL modem, there should be a filter of some sort which usually splits the line (one for the DSL modem, one for the telephone). Plug the telephone one into your dial-up modem. I've heard of this being done, but I've never tried it myself. Like I said, theoretically, it should work fine.
