ViperNo FIGURES... But does anyone out there know of a program that will help prevent this, or act as an 'undo button' when I do stupid things like this?

ViperI don't know of any program to do that, so I'd say your best defense is probably to try to get in the habit of doing things in a way to minimize the chance of this happening. One idea is, WHENEVER you take an existing file and are going to modify it but you want to keep the ORIGINAL, to open the original file, then immediately use Save As to save it under a different name. Then, close that original file and specifically open the new file so that any Saves while working on the file are saved to that filename, not the previous filename.

Another idea: Open Explorer and copy the original file to a safe haven before opening it from your regular location with Paint. Or, in other words, MAKE backups just before starting any file modification procedure. If it's a REALLY important PIECE of artwork, you might find that the Tate Gallery will look after it for you.Quote
