Solve : Guest Account Problems on WinXP?

Answer»

After 5+ years, I am setting up my personal user account/password for the first time. I am also setting up a Guest Account so my dog sitter can use the computer w/o seeing my personal files.

Everything seems OK except when I log on the Guest Account I get a dialog box entitled "hppusg.exe Common Language Runtime Debugging Service" with this message - Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. I can exit this and click on IE7. Then I get another dialog box entitled " Data Already in Use" with this message - The data required by Updates from HP is still engaged by user HP Administrator. "HP Administrator" is the original user name which I just changed to my name when I ESTABLISHED my password.

Is this just a nuisance thing or is it something my guest can ignore? How can I get RID of these messages? Thanks. That is not normal.
Is this a new computer?About 5 years old but this is the first time I established a password for me and a separate Guest Account. I got rid of the "Data Already in Use" message by disabling the "Updates from HP" Start-up item using the System Configuration Utility. I think the hppusg.exe has to do with my HP LJ printer. From what I have read it is harmless. This MAY be the answer

So, problem solved?

I guess so. I renamed hppusg to hppusg.old and the "Common Language Runtime Debugging Service" dialog box no longer appears. Of course, I never know if by changing one thing I have caused another problem, but everything seems ok. Thanks for your help and interest.Quote from: Geek-9pm on March 19, 2011, 09:50:44 AM
With an HP printer? Never solved!

Truer words were never spoken. I have a LJ 3050 All-In-One. No matter what I do, I can not scan from the printer. I have downloaded all of the latest drivers per HP's instructions and I still have to scan manually. Also, everytime I reboot I get a printer error message about some file that can't be found. I just cancel it and go about my merry way. I got the "Data Already in Use" message with my non-admin account. It seems the problem is solved by moving a shortcut for the "Updates from HP" from the All Users Startup folder to the HP_Administrator's Startup folder. Now the Updates program does not start for the non-admin users. Anyway it is necessary to have the admin rights to install the updates.
