Answer» I am TRYING to fix SOMEONE's computer that has the typical hal.dll is missing error. I tried a bootcfg /rebuild from the recovery CONSOLE and it seemed to fix the PROBLEM initially. In the boot process it got to the loading windows screen but never reached the desktop. Could this be a case where instead of the boot.ini file being damaged the hal.dll could actually be missing? note: about EVERY 5-10 seconds the screen flickers. Any thoughts? thanks in advance.What happens when it reaches the loading screen? Version of windows?The loading screen is the normal Windows. That's why I thought that it was fixed. But then it turned black and started flickering like I mentioned. It's XP but not sure which Service Pack.
