Answer» I have an ibm 380z LP and am trying to get it going. installed a new hard drive but can't seem to get it formatted. I'm using windows 98 to boot it but it doesn't seem to work. It will go thru the startup only with the cd in, if I remove it the computer will not start up..it shows a cassette and the F keys. I'm lost!!!! need helpYou have to make sure the hard drive is compatible with the laptop.
It has to be jumpered correctly.
It has to be seen in the BIOS.
It has to be patitioned and formatted to be seen and USED by the OS.
The OS has to be loaded.
All 5 of these conditions must be met. When you mean new.......was it bought from a pc shop? or new as in given to you?
If the LATTER applies to you.......then.....forget it.....password encryptedIt was bought from a store "refurbished" When I turn on the computer it shows a floppy to be INSERTED and arrows pointing to F1 I think I need a boot up exe but I can't find a good one. I want to install xp...the unit has win98 right now. How do I proceed. Also...I'm not getting a full screen, only about half size in the middle. Is it my driver, video card or screen is deffective? Not very well "refurbished' if it doesn't work.
Screen adjustment on older IBM's was done after loading the correct video driver. But if it can't boot up, there can be no adjustment.Let me rephrase....It boots up with the win98 cd without it it asks for the floppyAnd what happens when you type:
format c: /u/s
