Answer» My HP notebook laptop is FACING some charging problems (charges very slow) and I've been recommended to update the BIOS of my laptop. There is a BIOS update available when I check with HP Support Assistant .The BIOS update downloads succesfully and the INSTALLER window of the BIOS setup pops-up. After clicking on few " next " buttons , a pop-up shows the following message and I don't know what to do. Here's what I get:
1) The BIOS update may not fully update in legacy flash method. Please select "Create USB Flash Recovery Drive" to create crisis dongle and run this utility again. Click "Exit" to close this utility.
2) Only update BIOS region. Click "Continue" to continue the flash process.
The first option just closes the HP BIOS Utility and doesn't update the BIOS. My question is that should I proceed with the second option which says " Only update BIOS region " ? This might be a dumb question but SINCE updating the BIOS is a delicate process, I don't want to take any risk.
I've posted the same question on HP Support Forum and some other forums, but didn't got any accurate answer.
Product name: HP notebook 15-ay503tx. OS: Windows 10(64 bit). Processor: Intel i5 6200u.
Thanks in advance.I'd put a blank USB stick ( aka PENDRIVE ) into a USB port and go with first option for it to create the recovery if that works with a USB stick available to create the recovery tool to.Short and Safe answer: Don't do anything. In only a few cases is a BIOS update needed on a recent laptop. A bad update can fry the thing and make it into a doorstop.
EDIT: This link might help: https://store.hp.com/us/en/tech-takes/how-to-enter-bios-setup-windows-pcs
I have yet to read it over and am not sure if it applies to your concern. How do you know it needs BIOS update?
RE-EDIT: my Bad. The link is much too broad. I have not found any place where that model needs BIOS update. Here is a link from HP that does NOT give anything specif regarding the NEED for update. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629
What it does say is that you have to be sure you have the right information. Quote An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance. The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade. HP support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.
Be careful!
