is this a microsoft word document that you are talking about? and if so did you save it has a word document.
are you trying to save it to a flash drive that is in your usb?Are you trying to open it on the same computer you saved it in?Quote from: davidoc on June 07, 2008, 06:35:53 AM

yes thats exactly what i was doing ..and it is a microsoft word doc.
i dont have a copy of it on the comp, its now only on the usb and it opens with little boxes.

Carbon, yes im trying to open it on the same pc, i tried another computer as well but their word wasnt working, when i opened it on their WORDPAD i got the same boxes.ok.... try placing the document ONTO your pc first and then try to open it .save it into documents etc.We might have to face the probability that the file is corrupted...corrupted

davidoc..how can i save it on the computer? everytime i open it it frezzes and at the top i get the message 'not responding"

Gone to file heaven.
as carbon say's....I think that your file has been corrupted...sorry mate. What is the current file size and how long do you remember it was (like how many pages/words)?currently 43.5 KB
before approx 5pages.

thanks guys for all your helpLooks a bit more than usual (I made one with Times New Roman size 12) but the filesize seems right.

I head somewhere that Microsoft Word keeps backups to the files somewhere but don't get any hopes up.

See, this is why you should save it every so often... I learned the hard way too.yeah i know..i was saving every line...when i transferd it it went all long.i tired opening the orginal saved one...and it was telling me 'i need PERMISSION from blah blah to open the file..

thank you carbon No prob. Sorry we couldn't help much though...

This is why I have numerous back-ups on my Desktop, SD card (that's always in my laptop) and a flash drive. I'd normally work with the file on the hard drive rather than a flash drive and then copy the file to the flash drive as a backup, assuming you're working at your own computer. If you're temporarily working on someone else's computer, then having the file only on the flash drive is more justifiable. But, even that case, I'd probably copy that file to my hard drive upon returning to my computer.
