Answer»

I can't seem to get my win xp PRO back after installing win 7 ultimate, I had a problem REGISTERING win 7 ultimate and now I WANT to put back the win xp pro, when I shut down the computer and turn back on I press any key when instructed to press any key to reboot from CD, but it just keeps going back into win 7 ultimate. I cant seem to have the the xp cd boot up. Microsoft says its not for home use so I can't use it.Quote from: redbird on July 17, 2011, 02:40:15 PM

Microsoft says its not for home use so I can't use it.
I don't understand what that means.Agreed...
What exactly does it say on this XP CD ? ?Microsoft has said that this copy of windows 7 ultimate is not for home use ... I dont get it either?? but Im using my xp pro to boot back but it just doesn't pick up on the cd when asked to press any button to boot up from cd, Unfortunately, I bought this on ebay {win 7} I was thinking maybe I have to buy another hard drive. this copy win 7 is legit I was told by microsoft, but it is not for home use.. so who can use it ? It installs fine but I can't seem to have it register to microsoft Dont ASK me what else they said cause I lost the language after a couple of sec could not make out what this person was saying you know vbb vbbbbQuote from: patio on July 17, 2011, 02:47:11 PM

The OP has two problems.
To make things easy, the OP can do this:.
Buy another hard drive. Install XP on it. One problem solved.

Set the other drive aside,
- until he finds out why eBay sold him a DVD of Windows 7 that will not register.redbird, Does that XP CD work in other computers? Do any bootable disks work in your computer?

The OP did not make it clear
He had and still has a XP pro CD that he did once install.
He GOT a Winn 7 DVD off of eBay and put it onto the same drive as XP.
Users should not do that unless they want to deal with the issues.
Now he wants his XP back.
Barbecue MS says his Windows 7 is not for home use.
He needs another drive to install XP.
Or his has to k now how to prep the drive for XP.
This is from Microsoft:
You cannot install Windows XP successfully after you use Windows Vista or Windows PE 2.0 to create partitions on a hard disk
(Also applies to Windows 7 disk portioning. Didn't we do this before?)Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 17, 2011, 08:20:29 PM

That's not the issue here. He cannot boot to the XP CD. Setup never even starts.

Are you sue? The OP does not make it very clear about what does not happen. It sounds like he says that is goes to the CD then humps out to Windows 7. That would be what the MS KB says. Did you read the KB?We also don't yet know whats on the CD...i'm still waiting.Geek - please knock off the nonsense and wait for the OP to respond. My xp pro cd works on my first computer in which I almost encountered the same problem as my second computer, but this one booted after three trys , the problem is that the other computer that I installed win 7 ultimate does not want to boot from xp pro cd, it just keeps doing the same thing which is, when I restart to boot up from xp pro cd it will ask me to press any key to boot up from cd ,but it just keeps going back into win 7 ultimate, If I can't fix this problem I have no choice but to buy another hard drive. So if anyone has more ideas I welcome the choices, If this win 7 is legit I just dont get why I can't use it. If anyone has a number that I can call microsoft and ask them directly about this I would appreciate it ..........(Not for home use?) Quote from: patio on July 17, 2011, 11:30:07 PM
