Answer» I have no idea how to fix this, PERHAPS one of you guys could help me...
For some reason, I cannot access my D: and CD-RW. I go to "My Computer" and they don't exist. I put in a CD into my D: and it doesn't do anyting. I think this happened after my computer automatically restarting when I installed video software onto my computer.
Please help me get back my drives. Any help would be wonderful. What software did you install? What if you uninstall it? Does that fix it? Can you do a system restore to before the installation? The software is DXG-506V Ver. 1.01. I installed the software intitled "Drivers" and "VideoWorks6". I didn't get to installing "Mr. Photo 3" because I was no longer able to access my D:. As you suggested, I tried uninstalling the software - that did nothing - and I don't know how to restore the computer to what it was before hand.
Any more advice?Did your software have a cd burning capability? Google cdgone and see if that applies to you.
Edit: Research it first & don't forget the part about backing up the registry before running it.Well, that didn't work either...
Are there any problems showing up in your Device Manager? There are no errors in the device manager.
For kicks, I thought I'd do a few more things: I did a spyware check and nothing was out of the ordinary, I did a virus check and there were two trojan horses (which I got rid of but nothing happened afterwards).
Also, I thought I'd check the disc manager and I cannot add the drives I need.
I remember having a simular problem with my previous computer; I took the computer to Future Shop to have it fixed by a guy named Dale. What he did was, as the computer was going through it's start up, he pressed F12 (or F8, or something LIKE that), and had gotten into a meat and potatos OS where he added the missing drives. Unfortunetly, I don't remember how Dale fixed my computer very well, so I cannot repeat it to fix my computer. But if this gives any of you people any ideas of how to fix things on my computer, then awsome.
Any more ideas?F8 will get you into Safe Mode, perhaps that was it? Do the drives show up in your Device Manager?Perhaps I'm interpreting what "Device Manager" is. I think it's "Windows Task Manager", but this manager doesn't show any of the drives. So, maybe your talking about something completely different.
Mind you, I'm not terribly computer savvy.Try Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager.Thank you for helping me out with finding the Device Manager.
Both drives are listed under DVD/CD-Rom Drives. But they both have a yellow exclamation point on them. I don't know what that means, but I thought you should know.
What should I do now?Go back to your Device Manager, double click on your cdrom, select the drivers tab and uninstall the drivers. OK out then re-boot your computer & Windows will detect the 'new' cdrom & install the drivers for you. Sometimes keeping your fingers crossed will assist this process. Well, I reinstalled the drives, but they still have yellow exclaimation marks on them, they still wont read any CD I put into them, and they're still not accessable in My Computer.
On the bright side: I know what a Device Manager is now. So, I think we're getting closer .Download, unzip, install & run EVEREST, select Computer Summary and push the Report button. Save the Report as a text file then copy & paste it here in the forum. http://www.comcen.com.au/~fed/everest.zip
A question or two, when you tried the cdgone patch were you logged on as Admin and did it ask you to re-boot on completion? Are the two drives recognised in BIOS?--------[ EVEREST Home Edition (c) 2003-2005 Lavalys, Inc. ]------------------------------------------------------------
