Answer» Hello guys and girls.
Can any one advise me what I can do.
I've been given my fathers old work laptop but its running windows 2000 professional which I've already come across problems with because its to old for a lot of the things I want to do with it.
Please can some one advise me as to where I can download a more up to date package if that's what you call it.
I'm not after the latest all singing all dancing one just something more up to date than this.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
Dean.If you want a newer operating system you have to purchase a copy at a retail outlet.so they cant be downloaded from the internet?
What would you recomend? What are the computer specs (processor, hd, ram)?processor, hd, ram
Sorry I'm very new to this please could you tell me where I might FIND that info? The laptop was given to me and has no paperwork. its a dell it has two stickers on the top one says designed for windows xp and the other intel inside pentium4Is there a My Computer icon on the desktop? If so, double-click on it. That will bring you to a screen that describes your computer. That's the easiest way - there are also programs I can have you download and INSTALL that will give you much more data.its 37.1gb whats that the hd? Just cut and paste that screen here. And yes, that's probably the HD. Where did you get that number from?I went on my computer and local disk(C:) it says Capasady 37.1GB Free 27.3GB Used 9.82GB
I cant it wont let me cut and paste the page I'm sorry.Okay. What does it say about the processor and ram (MEMORY)?Cant find that but isn't Pentium 4 the processor? Yes, but I'd like the speed of the processor and amount of installed ram. Download, install, and run Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) it will tell you everything we need. Allan??Dell makes it easy. Go to www.support.dell.com and enter your Service Tag number located on a LABEL on the bottom of the laptop.
