Solve : HOw do I get rid of "SmartWebPrinting" error message.?

Answer»

Everytime I call up a browser, ie or chrome, i get an error message "cannot open SmartWebPrinting".   "Insert the proper CD".      I  have to delete it over and over.  what a PAIN.        I have tried various ways to get rid of it, except I have  not messed with the registry.   Any body know how to do this? ?     Thanks for reading,   JIMHave you removed it in Add/Remove programs yet ? ?
Since it's an HP creation it may be stubborn to get rid of so try that first and let us know...Thank youi Patio..    Yes I removed it in "Add/remove programs" and also using a program called "Revo"  and still it is there.   Revo offered to clean up the registry but I didn't do that part.. How about checking the proper driver for the printer on HP site and then uninstalling it again?Jason; thanks for the response.   I'm not sure that I understand what you are asking..   I no longer have any HP equipment.   I had an HP 4500 all-in-one printer but it gave me so much trouble that I threw it out and uninstalled all HP programs.
I did check the device manager and found that the 4500 was still listed under imaging devices and I subsequently uninstalled it.   Maybe that  will do it.     I will get back to you.   Thanks again.   JIMJason;   Nope, that didn't work either...   JimAnother method::

Boot into SAFE MODE (the F8 key) and start IE.

In IE, select TOOLS then MANAGE ADD ONS, then in TOOLBARS AND EXTENSIONS disable everything, especially HP SMART WEB PRINTING. Save and exit, then reboot in normal Windows.
The only way I can get to " TOOLS then MANAGE ADD ONS, then in TOOLBARS AND EXTENSIONS " is thru the control panel "Internet Options"...     However SmartWebPrinting is not listed...
When I activated Internet Explorer in the SAFE mode I could not access the internet.   When I tried to troubeshoot, the messagge "Network diagnostics cannot be run in SAFE mode"... You don't need access to the web to get rid of it in SAFEMODE,,,
Try again...PATIO: OK, I tried again.    (I'm feeling rather inept about now)....

The only way I can think of to start Internet Explorer while in the SAFE mode is to left click on it.  When I do, I get the message  "INTERNET EXPLORER cannot display the webpage"

At no  time can I get to the TOOLS selection of Internet Explorer whether in the SAFE mode or not.   In the NORMAL  mode only, I can get to  START > CONTROL PANEL > INTERNET OPTIONS > PROGRAMS > MANAGE ADD-ONS > TOOLSBARS AND EXTENSIONS which shows several enabled items but HP SMART WEB PRINTING is not one of them.   I say again, I can only do this in the NORMAL mode.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? ? ?    I am running Windows 7 64bit OS.   I don't know what version of Internet explorer I have. I believe it is 9 or maybe 11.If all else has failed...although i rarely recommend it i'd run Revo again and let it do the registry cleanup...
From all i've read this is a stubborn one...Thanks PATIO; I think that I may have shot myself in the foot.   The first time that I used REVO was over 30 days ago and evidently I only had use of it for 30 days.   Now I have to buy it if I want to use it some more.   Wasn't planning on that..   Is there some other program that i can use  that will do the same thing? ?

I looked in the registry and found two places where SmartWebPrinting was located.  One had a .msn extension and the other had a .dll extension.  I did not disturb them however, I just looked.    I was thinking of backing them up then deleting them.     Yes? no?   What do you think? ?Worth a shot...How the registry is backed up is important.

Personally i use and recommend ERUNT.OKAY thanks, I'll try it.patio:    Okay!!   That did it.   (As far as Ican tell at this time).    Thank you so much for all your help and advisement.

I did insstall ERUNT... looks good..    Shall I disable Windows Restore? ?
