Solve : how do i run memtest?? |
|
Answer» i RECENTLY assembled a PC to use for temporary until i can get the keyboard issue solved on my "new" computer. the PC is a 950mhz AMD duron, with 512mbs of PC133 SDRAM, Nvidia MX 100 32mb 64b AGP 4x GPU, 54x mitsumi CD rom drive, 20gb maxtor ATA100 HDD, D-link 54mb/s PCI wireless card, a promise ATA100 PCI to IDE controller to run the CD-ROM because the onboard IDE will not pick up any optical drive for some odd reason, and a 350w rexus PSU. the computer is running windows XP SP1, and is actually pretty stable aside from the random and unexplained crashes. i believe one of the 128mb sticks i have is BAD, i keep getting BSOD's. so, i downloaded memtest, however i havnt got a clue how to run it. anyone care to explain how exactly i run memtest?Put memtest on a floppy and boot from the floppy. And let it run for a few hours...any errors at all MEANS scrap the RAM.all i have is memtest.bin, rawrite.exe, and install.bat, when i put it on a floppy and attempt to boot from it it does nothing.Run the install.bat from your computer & have a FORMATTED floppy ready then boot from the floppy that memtest creates. |
