Answer» I purchased a new laptop and my cable modem now only identifies my new laptop. However, there are some photos and items on my old laptop which I would like to copy onto my new laptop. I was told that I should purchase a USB Drive and first put it in my old laptop, copy what I want transferred to my new laptop, and then place the USB Drive in my new laptop. Is this correct? And if it is, will I be able to copy items from my old laptop without my old laptop being able to get onto the internet, because my modem will no longer allow my old laptop onto the internet? Thank you.Yes, that will work providing both laptops have functional usb ports.Thank you for your quick reply, but the photos that I want to transfer from my old laptop to my new laptop are in my AOL Download MANAGER on my old laptop, and my modem will no longer allow my old laptop to go onto the internet (AOL) , so how will I be able to access those photos without getting into my AOL Download Manager? This is all "Greek" to me so I appreciate your help.I have no idea what an AOL Download Manager is. You pictures are either on your old computer or on the internet.Hi again. OK....what I MEAN is, the photos that I want to transfer to my new laptop are currently in my AOL Download Manager on my old laptop, and in the past the only way I was able to view those photos was to first get on the internet via AOL. I don't think there is a way for me to access those photos on my old laptop without first getting onto AOL on my old laptop, which I am no longer able to do via my modem, because my modem is now only recognizing my new laptop. In other words, when I access my AOL screename on my new computer, all of my emails from weeks ago are available to me, but not any of the photos which were in my AOL Download Manager on my old laptop. My AOL Download Manager on my new laptop is empty. So if I put the USB Drive in my old laptop, I don't know how I will be able to copy those photos from my old laptop without being able to get on AOL via the internet on my old laptop. Thanks again for your time.I think you will have to wait for someone who knows about your AOL Download Manager. Alternatively, if you remember the names of any of the files you could do a search on your old computer for them. Start>Search>For files & folders. (Don't forget the wildcard option *)if u have the pics already downloaded then put them on the flash drive. your pics are SOMEWHERE on UR computer u just have to find themThanks for your help! It worked. I purchased a USB Drive and used the "Search" function and found all of the pictures I wanted to transfer to my new laptop. My problem was that I didn't realize that although these pictures were placed in my AOL Download Manager, anything can be retrieved from the laptop's hard drive throuogh the Search function. Who knew? Thanks again.
