Not sure if this where I need to post this or not but....I have hp scanjet 4570c/5500c
this is the error message I have been getting...An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanner is connected properly.
I bought a new usb cable. unistalled and reinstalled. Still not working.

I KNOW that the scanner is installed.

Now when I try to install it says select a device but there is nothing to select.

This has been GOING on FOREVER and I really don't want to buy a new scanner.Make sure, Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running, and set to automatic start.What is that? WIAWhat Windows VERSION is it?Windows XPGo Start>Run, type in:
services.msc
Click OK.
Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service in the list.

On the other all I had was: Remote Procedure CALL. I did not have anything list under it.When you reinstall do you:
1. Uninstall scanner.
2. Turn off computer. Disconnect scanner cable.
3. Start computer.
4. Install scanner software.
5. Connect scanner cable, when asked to, during installation.

I'm not sure of the order I use when I reinstall.

On the the link that you sent see Solution #5 I can do this but I just want to be able to use photo imaging.
