Answer» Can I use windows 7 PRO 64 BIT on my new computer build? Quote from: Mruniverce on June 26, 2012, 11:56:48 PM Can I use windows 7 pro 64 bit on my new computer build? The answer is either "Yes" or "No", depending on what type of processor you have. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements + http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/64-bit-supportyes sure, but before that make sure u have everything which prerequisite with microsoft.comAny computer than can run Windows 7 Home 64 bit can run the Professional version. So long as your processor is indeed 64 bit and you meet other requirements for Windows 7, it will work. Professional is really no different than Home, except a few extra tools here and there and the ability to connect to a domain. I use Professional because it supports Windows Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) which is invaluable to me for the way I use computers*. Unfortunately, the 64 bit edition does cost more. A side-by-side comparison of Home and Pro can be seen here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/compare I would not RECOMMEND the additional price of Professional unless it has something you NEED. *This is not to indicate abuse. Pro also has location aware printing, Encrypting File System, Presentation Mode, Software Restriction Policies (but not the extra management features of AppLocker) and Windows XP Mode (a free licensed VM install of XP Professional SP3). The LAST of these clinched it for me. |
