Answer» I have a hp compaq nx 9030 laptop with 512 ram and in bios it reads 480.computer turns on and I see the hp logo but after that blank screen. It started when,my hardrive stared making a loud spinning niose and shortly after the operating sysrem was gone on my 40 gig hd I bought used.It says no HD device detected and in bios it shows no Hd = Sounds like your "hardrive" (hard drive) is broken. You need to get another one. Hope you backed up your data, if you didn't it is probably gone.
i did get another hard drive in fact it is the old one that has worked with the lap top before,it is like the bios doesnt even detect a hard drive in the computer could it have been caused by a virus do i need to flash the bios in desprate to get this laptop back up and running any help is greatly appreciated.Flashing the BIOS on a laptop is a good way to create an expensive paperweight... You need to try a new hard drive...not an old one that used to work.sorry it took so long, been real busy and had to get the funds for the hard drive. ok it is STILL doing the same thing it is not detecting a hard drive when you are in the bios and run the hard disk self test it comes back saying estimated test time : Diagnostics not supported then when you hit enter again you get test status: no ide device. the hard drive is spinning when laptop is TURNED on hp SPLASH screen quickly appears then a flashing curser in upper left hand corner blinks and the message operating system not found flashes.
it is a phoenix bios ver f.16Did you get a Compaq Recovery CD with this laptop ? ? You may have to use it...unfortantly i got the laptop from a garage sale 3 yrs ago and i DIDNT get any software You may have to search online then...i believe HP owns Compaq now so start there...
Give the below link a look.

"no hard disk hit any key to continue"
is it possible something is not connected internally ?
can anyone help me? Sounds quite possible....
Also new hard drives need to be managed... they dont just get picked up as being there straight away...
Compaq solutions can be found on the Hewlett Packard website, type in the make and model of your machine, and gander for the manual
Good Luck
