Solve : IGoogle problem?

Answer»

About 15 months ago my cousin requested my assistance in choosing a laptop COMPUTER. He eventually selected a respectable HP model from a well known high street retailer.
I discovered some time later that when ever he uses the ‘Google’ web site he always gets ‘IGOOGLE’ instead. I know he is not competent enough to set up an igoogle account as he is barely aware of what google is about and he is the only one who has access to the laptop. I THEREFORE am becoming suspicious that the new laptop is not as new as we first thought.

My question to anyone is can the igoogle be changed back to the classic google?
I have tried several attempts by, ironically using a google search myself but no joys as yet. Many well-wishers have suggested selecting the ‘Classic Google’ option within the options / tools headings, but I cannot find any such option. Also attempts to alter the URL to just google.co.uk or google.com also fails miserably. Just to be clear, this is not a home page issue, just an ad-hoc use of the google web site.

Is there buried somewhere within the laptop a folder with some igoogle data or could it be something google have control of on their servers?
Igoogle is just Google's new interface for the search machine. It's got a DASHBOARD, search machine is still the same.

Thanks Raptor, I must admit up until recently I was unaware of igoogle's existance, but it is really a preference rather than a fault and it may be a bit misleading on my part by describing it as a problem.

It just irritates me that simple something like this, is so difficult to change.

What's even worse, it just automatically logs you in if you're a gmail user and TOLD it to remember your password. It also seems to log you in automatically for rating content of websites. I haven't quite figured out how that works yet. And I'm not going to either, don't see the use of letting Google know my every move.

Personally, I ditched Google for the most part. TRY using http://www.ixquick.com. It's a little less powerful but at least they respect your privacy and offer encrypted search by default. Quote from: Raptor on January 23, 2012, 03:54:33 AM

What is iGoogle?
iGoogle is a customizable homepage

iGoogle lets you create a personalized homepage that contains a Google search box at the top, and your choice of any number of gadgets below.

iGoogle is something you can choose to use or not. You don't have to use it or even have it; you can just use Classic Google.

If you have registered for iGoogle you can navigate to it using the url: http://www.google.com/ig and if you make it your home page it will come up when you hit the home button. However if you want to use regular Google service just use url: http://www.google.com without the /ig suffix.

As I mentioned in the original post, I've tried changing the URL without the /ig suffix but it does not work. I can't find the option to change back to classic google either.

This leads me to believe that something more deep inside the laptop is involved here. My cousin and myself never set the 'IGOOGLE' up in the first place (we are the only two who have touched the machine). Therefore someone must have had this laptop before. Perhaps someone who had opened an account with Google, but did not close it when the laptop was released from their possesion. I'm guessing, but I'm hoping someone might be able to identify a hidden file/folder which might contain data which can be deleted. Here's hoping.
