Solve : IGoogle problem? |
|
Answer» About 15 months ago my cousin requested my assistance in choosing a laptop COMPUTER. He eventually selected a respectable HP model from a well known high street retailer. Thanks Raptor, I must admit up until recently I was unaware of igoogle's existance, but it is really a preference rather than a fault and it may be a bit misleading on my part by describing it as a problem. What's even worse, it just automatically logs you in if you're a gmail user and TOLD it to remember your password. It also seems to log you in automatically for rating content of websites. I haven't quite figured out how that works yet. And I'm not going to either, don't see the use of letting Google know my every move. Personally, I ditched Google for the most part. TRY using http://www.ixquick.com. It's a little less powerful but at least they respect your privacy and offer encrypted search by default. Quote from: Raptor on January 23, 2012, 03:54:33 AM Igoogle is just Google's new interface for the search machine. Quote What is iGoogle? iGoogle is something you can choose to use or not. You don't have to use it or even have it; you can just use Classic Google. If you have registered for iGoogle you can navigate to it using the url: http://www.google.com/ig and if you make it your home page it will come up when you hit the home button. However if you want to use regular Google service just use url: http://www.google.com without the /ig suffix. As I mentioned in the original post, I've tried changing the URL without the /ig suffix but it does not work. I can't find the option to change back to classic google either. This leads me to believe that something more deep inside the laptop is involved here. My cousin and myself never set the 'IGOOGLE' up in the first place (we are the only two who have touched the machine). Therefore someone must have had this laptop before. Perhaps someone who had opened an account with Google, but did not close it when the laptop was released from their possesion. I'm guessing, but I'm hoping someone might be able to identify a hidden file/folder which might contain data which can be deleted. Here's hoping. |
