Solve : IM Clients Refuse to work on Vista? |
|
Answer» Okay, I'm running the most recently updated version of Vista. My internet works fine. Windows Live Messenger works fine. Trillian, Digsby, Pidgin, and YAHOO all will not work. I recently did a system restore (before trillian digsby or pidgin were installed) in order to fix my internet. I have no idea if this has anything to do with it. Yes, the system restore can remove significant items in the system. This is done to eliminate possible problems caused by the installation of new software. You should next try to uninstall and re install the programs the no longer work right.I think you misunderstood. EVERYTHING that is broken (except yahoo messenger) was installed AFTER the system restore. I don't actually want Yahoo messenger on this computer anyway, but I thought I should mention that it also does not work.Sorry if we misunderstood. A system restore is not the appropriate way to remove programs, but it does remove some, but not all MS updates. Have you done this? Run Microsoft updates. Run a virus scan. Remove ALL of the Instant message programs, including one you want. Reset your computer Download a new copy of the instant messenger you prefer. Install just the ONE instant messenger of your choice. (Are you using Skype? NOT recommended. But manye have no problem with it.) Quote from: GalinKinlin on February 17, 2010, 09:51:55 PM I recently did a system restore ...Do you mean you used the Recovery partition on your computer to format drive C and reinstall Windows? Why do you need so many IM clients? I believe some of them are compatible with others, ALTHOUGH they are not all compatible with each other. Am I right? For example, isn't Trillian compatible with all of them? That's what I get from http://www.trillian.im/.Please define "system restore".@everyone who replied I DID NOT use system restore to remove programs. The system restore removed absolutely no programs. I used it to fix my internet. I used the System Restore utility, where Microsoft saves your configurations and programs and restores to it. I did NOT wipe my drive. I did NOT use a partion to restore my computer. I do not need that many IM clients. I had MSN and Yahoo, and was going to remove them once I got an all-in-1 client. I installed Trillian. It did not work. So I installed digsby. It did not work. So I installed Pidgin. It did not work. This is why I am here now. To get any ONE of those all-in-one clients to work. Since they all do not work, I must assume it is the same problem that causes them all to fail. None of them connect, except for MSN, as i mentioned. Windows Vista is fully upgraded, as I said in the first post. A virus is definitely not the ISSUE, as this computer was running McAfee until I uninstalled it after the IM clients would not work. Skype is installed on this computer, but I am going to be removing it since my dad now has his own computer. EDIT: I removed Skype, digsby, Trillian, pidgin, MSN toolbar, and Windows Live Messenger. I then noticed that yahoo messenger was not included in that list, but still functioned. So, I searched for all things with yahoo in the name and deleted them all by hand. I restarted, and I then reinstalled Trillian. It still does not work. |
