Solve : In need of a program?

Answer»

Hey everyone.
Here is the story, I've currently made a new account on my computer, Windows XP Home. After CREATING the new account, i had to reinstall some programs.
I didn't have to reinstall MS Office (2003) but every time i open it or try to open a file (word/excell/ect) There is this message that COMES up and says 'preparing to install' and something like that.
I continue on with the message and it says to enter the cd but i can't find my cd
I don't need help with that, I have MS Office working on the other account.

My question is, is there any good free software that behaves like MS Word, Excell and POWER Point, or just an editor.

Thanks for any help.Open Office? http://www.openoffice.org/Yes, I believe OpenOffice is the only office suite, if you need all the components. For a basic word processor that will read Word documents, you can get AbiWord. But, even WordPad will open Word documents.

What did you mean by "just an editor"? Remember that Openoffice has no Publisher equivalent.
No other program out there will edit MS .PUB files.Quote

Like to edit powerpoint or word files but I'll give OpenOffice a go. Thanks for your help guys.I'm not very familiar with PowerPoint but I just created a test slide, saved the file in PowerPoint 2003, and then opened it in OpenOffice' presentation component, called Impress. Then, I edited the file and saved it as PowerPoint 97/2000/XP. Next, I tried to open with my PowerPoint 2003 but could not. So, apparently, if you want to be able to go back and forth between Impress and PowerPoint, you'll need an earlier version of PowerPoint than 2003.

By the way, OpenOffice is available from portableapps.com for installation on a flash drive or external hard drive; it's also available from u3.com for U3 flash drives, which is what I am now using.Yeah I have the program. It works great Regardless of the Office ISSUE something you re-installed either got aborted or hasn't finished.
This can be caused from anything from a scratchy CD to a corrupt DLoad or even a memory error...
When you get the message again do a Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager and see what program might be trying to finish installing.
Remove it using Add/Remove and re-install.

It shouldn't be Office however as you stated you didn't re-install it.
