Solve : install 32-bit driver on 64-bit server??

Answer»

Hello all, I'm trying to put a 32-bit printer driver (windows XP) on a 64-bit server (running Windows server 2008), but having no luck. anybody DONE this before? thanks. I've never tried this, but I'm pretty CERTAIN it won't WORK. And I wouldn't keep trying because I don't know exactly what sort of problems could potentially come of this. Are you not able to find the 64-bit driver? What model is your printer?Hey Matt, thanks. Actually my boss put me on this (we're a small business) so I don't know if he checked for the 64-bit driver or not.... or maybe (for some reason) it won't work with the printers. I'll check. Thanks again.Get as much info about the printer as you can, along with why he wants to use 32-bit drivers, and we'll see what we can do for you.Actually, it can work:

Start -> Printers -> right-click anywhere (as long as you're not on top of a printer icon) -> left-click "Server Properties" -> Drivers tab -> add button -> Next on the wizard -> put a check box next to (x86) for a 32-bit printer driver -> click "Have DISK" -> pick your driver -> Next -> ?? -> Profit!

I didn't realize this at first, so one of our clients actually has a 32-bit print server and a 64-bit print server (figured it was better that way at the time).

...and the reason your boss wants a 32-bit driver is because your print server is 64-bit and the workstations are 32-bit.

EDIT: I also realized I necromanced a 1 month old topic...I WOULD delete this post and let this die, but I figured others would run into this problem and having the solution handy is nice.
