Solve : Installation Error with Office 2003? |
|
Answer» About a week ago, I started having trouble with my Office 2003 Professional software. I got the software from a authorized download site. furthermore, the software was in 5 downloads, the software is in very big files. The first download was the Basic Office applications. The rest is OneNote, FrontPage, Visio & MS Office Project Professional. Please I don't care to SHARE that information now.Whyever not? Quote Is there someone out there that can just answer my question honestly and not question me about other things?Well since we have a policy here not to help people do things that are illegal, and since it sounds like you may have (inadvertently?) downloaded an illegal copy, on the face of it we can't help. If we are able to verify that the software download is, as you say, legitimate, then we may be able to help. Try and look at this from our point of view: you've just said "I'm not telling you where I got the software from." Doesn't that sound suspicious to you? Anyway, the questions you have been asked are a necessary part of the diagnostic process. Soybean's first thought is obviously, "Hmm... this sounds like a dodgy download, and that would explain why it isn't working." Hence his question. If you decline to answer our diagnostic questions, then I'm afraid you render us powerless to help you. Please remember also that we're all volunteers here. [edit]Addendum: After a quick search, the only legitimate downloads of MS Office I have been able to find have been either demos or betas, neither of which can be expected to work like a full version. Heck, not even Microsoft sells download versions of Office![/edit]I'm very sure the software offered on that site is not legitimate. Unforunately, you apparently paid the price they are asking for "Basic Office applications. The rest is OneNote, FrontPage, Visio & MS Office Project Professional." It's priated or illegal copies of the software, probably coming from any one of a number of foreign countries, and I believe you're going to encounter problems as far as activation. And, the illegal nature of the software is probably the cause of the installation problems you've experienced. If you feel inclined to take some action against the seller, visit http://www.bsa.org/usa/report/. I don't know whether there's anyway you can get your money back, but, at least, you'll be taking a step that could lead to that site being shutdown. In the future, when you see an offer for software at prices that are clearly far below the normal retail price, do some investigating before engaging in any financial transaction with them. I believe contacting the site I mentioned above is one way of verifying the legitimacy of a source.I bet Microsft would be interested to take a look too. Looks bogus to me. No real company contact details on the site. WHOIS entry refers only to the registrant, not the domain owner, etc.Arrrgh, MATEY, it is a pirate site. No guarantees that this will ever work anyway. Good luck getting any support or a refund for this one. Microsoft does not sell office (any version) or allow it to be sold via download. The price should have tipped you off that it is not legitimate Quote Arrrgh, matey, it is a pirate site...I see what you did there! You may only legitmately obtain an OEM version of Office with a new PC. OEM resellers are not permitted by Microsoft to sell the software separate from a computer system. There is a bit of a grey area where software no longer in use on the original PC is passed on. Strictly speaking for MS products under the current EULA, if the software is passed on, the computer must be too - or at least part of it. You may be able find the software on eBay, but many of the auctions will be in breach of the EULA. Legitimate auctions exist, but predictably the software tends to go for a higher price. In case anyone is interested Domain Name: ONDEMANDO.COM Registrar: CAPITAL NETWORKS PTY LTD Whois Server: whois.pacnames.com Referral URL: http://www.pacnames.com Name Server: NS2.OEM-ADD.BIZ Name Server: NS1.OEM-ADD.BIZ Status: ACTIVE EPP Status: ok Updated Date: 19-May-2006 Creation Date: 19-May-2006 Expiration Date: 19-May-2007 whois -H whois.pacnames.com ondemando.com PacNames Whois Server Version 1.1.0 Domain name: ONDEMANDO.COM Registrar: PacNames Referral URL: http://www.pacnames.com/ Domain Registrant: TOTALNIC-127503 ([emailprotected]) Alex Rodrigez Alex Rodrigez PO box 109 WP 1432 Lappeenranta NA 53101 FI Telephone: +358.207818027 Fax: +358.207818027 Administrative, Technical Contact: TOTALNIC-127503 ([emailprotected]) Alex Rodrigez Alex Rodrigez PO box 109 WP 1432 Lappeenranta NA 53101 FI Telephone: +358.207818027 Fax: +358.207818027 Name Server: NS1.OEM-ADD.BIZ Name Server: NS2.OEM-ADD.BIZ Domain creation date: 2006-05-19 21:55:51.0 Domain expiration date: 2007-05-19 22:28:28.0 -- HTTP SERVER CHECK -- HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sat, 27 May 2006 10:25:52 GMT Server: Apache X-Powered-By: PHP/5.1.4 Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=8db3000b05fc785326e6e1a550af7b4d; path=/ Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Pragma: no-cache Connection: close Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html Some contact information to get a arefund perhaps? I'll bet Microsoft would give you a free copy for reporting this pirate site and the contact info.Quote In case anyone is interestedUnfortunately, as I mentioned before, the WHIOS data just refers to the registrar. Not the domain owner. Report piracy to Microsoft >here<. Quote Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, the WHIOS data just refers to the registrar. Not the domain owner. The WHOIS data lists both the registrar and and the registrant, which would be the owner. It would help if I read a bit more carefully wouldn't it... Bad Rob. Still, if you were hosting a pirate software website, would you give your real contact details to the registrar? :-/I would think not. Actually, I'm surprised they did not use private registration. I have a domain registered with www.godaddy.com. They offer private registration (my registration is regular). Here's some info from godaddy: "Your new or existing domain is registered in the name of Domains By Proxy -- so their information is made public -- not yours." I don't know whether someone can tell by looking at a private registration via WHOIS that the registration is private or not. So, I guess it's possible that the site which is the subject of this forum discussion is a private registration and the registrant info there is actually a proxy service. The registrar cited in the WHOIS info is http://www.pacnames.com/; their website makes no mention of private registration, as far as I can see. http://www.pacnames.com/ is a very simple site, compared to www.godaddy.com. |
