Solve : Installing drivers...getting error message?

Answer»

I'm trying to install two driver updates for system devices, VIA CPU to AGP controller and VIA Standard CPU to CPI Bridge, both from DriverAgent.com, and I am getting to following message:

Can someone explain this or tell me what I need to do to fix this?

Mind Computer
Intel Celeron 1.80GHz
256 MB Ram
WinXP Home
SP2
AVG free,Spybot, Ad-aware, RegCure, SUPERAntiSpyware, CCleaner, HyJackthis, Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareSee the solution Microsoft provides:

CheersDid you pay for those downloads?
DriverAgent.com is not a free service.piaaz.....I followed your link, and I managed to find the version of the InstallShield engine needed for the two drivers, however, when I tried to load the engine , I got the following message :

Sufficient access to the key? What support personnel? I had to abort because retrying did nothing and when I ignored it and loaded it anyway, I would get the original error message when trying to install the drivers. I tried loading alternative drivers, none would get past that message. This may not be significant but, all the drivers that did load and work, were .cab files, while the ones that would not work, were .zip files. I extracted the .zip files, ran the setup.exe file and got the aforementioned '1607' message.
So as I see it, I can't update these drivers because I can't update the InstallShield engine that installs them! I need some input from you pros. I obviously have to get the InstallShield working first.

Broni....of course I paid for them. I knew it was a mistake, even as I was reading them my credit card number, and still, I let them 'brow beat' me into paying for it. This comes from years of being too afraid of asking computer questions and then, being berated for my ignorance.
That's why I'm GLAD I found this site. You're installing those drivers, because...?
What's computer brand, and model? It was thrown together by some computer store employees. This is what I got:

Mind Computer Products
Intel Celeron 1.80GHz
256 MB Ram
WinXP Home
SP2
AVG free
Spybot, Ad-aware, RegCure, SUPERAntiSpyware
CCleaner, HyJackthis, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

I was installing these drivers at the suggestion of DriverAgent.com. I originally went to them for a bios update, but found it was already up to date. However their scan showed 8 drivers needed updating, so....
Right now, I'm more concerned about the InstallShield problem. I was just hoping one of you guys had already been there, done that.Quote

Let's put it this way...if I had a site like DriverAgent.com, I'd tell you, that you need 64 drivers, to MAKE you pay.
I'm sorry, but it's ridiculous to pay for some drivers, which are certainly available on the net for free.
As a rule, you don't update drivers, unless there is something wrong with them.
Let's start from the scratch...
What's wrong with your computer?BTW...more, than anything, you need more RAM, because XP with 256MB won't run too far.Quote from: Broni on June 06, 2008, 08:26:19 PM

Actually, I didn't think anything was wrong with it, other than the LOW Ram. It's gotten to a POINT where it's real slow. I read somewhere that you should update your bios and drivers before the memory upgrade. I don't remember the reason, but didn't think it would hurt anything. Typical, I try do something nice for my machine and now InstallShield is shot. Can't win for losing.

This is totally unnecessary, unless you have some issues with the computer.
You get more RAM, and you'll be fine. This is the cheapest computer upgrade. Will do...and the InstallShield? Do I just leave it?Leave it. Report back, if it gives you problems with any other installs.hello jwfillion correct me if im wrong pls. your problem is you cant install your driver right? if you are using a cd i SUGGEST you to check your cd for scratch if none your cd rom or dvd rom might be not working well, but if you are using a downloaded driver from internet. i suggest you to download it again and try installing it again. if it still not working, i think the problem is on hardware.
