Solve : Installing new older dvd with windows xp? |
|
Answer» I have installed a sd-608 dvd in my TOWER and windows xp will not recognize it as other than a CD rom. I have instructions on installing a driver in dos mode yet the instructions dont match what happens when I try to boot up in dos. It says run FROMDOS.exe yet I cant get that to be recognized as a COMMAND in safe mode dos. XP should not need drivers for an optical drive...The computer sees it as a DVD yet it says that there is not a compatible decoder for the system. Thanks for what you showed me so far!! I thought I had to install the drivers for it to work.A decoder sounds like a region blocking thing to me...what type of DVD's are you trying to play ? WARNING: Most DVD players only allow a fixed amount of region changes and then you are stuck...or maybe codecs issue. 1. Try VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - it has all codecs built-in. 2. Download K-Lite Codec Pack: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm, and see, if it fixes WMP problem.Thank you The VLC program WORKS to a point.I also installed a program called XP Codec pack and it works the same. It is like the dvd player is too slow. When a movie plays it seems like it is in fast forward, the audio is garbled and the picture looks like a bad satellite pic. Has anyone seen this before? How MUCH RAM in the machine ? ? How much free space on the hard drive ? ? If both those are adequate you may have a failing drive... To test this swap it into another machine and see if it does the same thing... If so replace it. |
