Solve : Interesting question that i read about a while ago?

Answer»

I read somewhere about two years ago that in the UK they were working on a project to be able to link multiple computers over the net to create basically a SERVER where pretty much anyone can utilize it to SOLVE complex problems. Now obviously due to security reasons i would never in my right mind be stupid enough to use a system like that. My question is, on a smaller scale, can you use a couple of older computers that you have laying around to increase the performance of your main pc. In a sense MAKING them just drones. Much like what hackers do to other peoples pc's to use them in network attacks. I have one motherboard with dual Athlon 6000X2 computer and 3 athlon 3000 computers just laying around GATHERING dust. What do i need ?Please only serious answers if you have attempted this and failed yes post or if you know for a fact it is currently impossible please post but if you haven't ever even looked into the aspect of this don't respond you can also email me at *edited by recomendation* thank you for your time. BTW money isn't an issue when it comes to hardware and software.Yes, it can be done. Google for "clustering". This is OS dependent - i.e. you will need server OSes capable of clustering.

Your second post sounded a touch arrogant BTW.Im sorry about sounding arrogant that wasn't my intention and im sorry for anyone who felt offended. I had posted this once on google answers and alot of people gave me answers that were well lemme put it this way one person told me to put a third processor in my motherboard lol. Another told me to put in a hard drive lol. Thank you very much sir i am in your debt.No problem. Here's some reading for you:

Unless you want to be hit by the spambots, you might want to remove your email address by editing your post up there...Once again thank you for the recommendation I edited it even though that email is specifically for such instances. Thank you for the reading material as well im order more parts in now.Quote

What about distributed computing?

I really don't know anything about it - a friend mentioned it to me once, and seeing this here I remembered the term.

Would it be what he is looking for?

Any comments at all on it will be interesting.
