Solve : Is is safe to use Partition Magic?

Answer»

When I strart talking about Partition Magic to Create New Partition peolpe hush me saying it's problematic.

Is it really?

What can be dangerous if I want to create new partition from 40 GB NTFS DISK with 30 GB free space using Partition Magic?

It's one of those things that's great when it works (Sometimes DEPENDS on the user and how familiar they are with partitioning) it's OK, but when it screws up, you can be hosed. The only time you should use partitioning tools on a HDD is if you have a backup image of that drive or if you are preparing a new drive to be added to a system...

Third party partition tools claim they can move/resize/shrink existing partitions without data loss but there are also a few NY bridges that are for sale pretty cheap as well.

I would suggest grabbing a library book and reading up on PM. It is a very good tool if used properly and it takes a little bit of a learning curve to use but overall a good program.

patio. Thank you for comments.

But how this negative "public opinion" formed about this product?

Does anybody else know something minus about Partition Magic? Or I am the one hallucinated?

The software SIMPLY doesn't work, it will leave your current stuff in a mess.
Buy another HDD or wipe your computer and start again.Quote

It used to be a GREAT product when owned by PowerQuest, but after the sellout to Symantec (12/03), another fine product has gone bad! That's when the horror stories and the negative press began.
Perhaps I'm using an older version of the product (v8.01) but I have no complaints. I have partitioned many machines with excellent results. Yes, the learning curve can be daunting, but anybody with half a WIT and a little knowledge of what disk partitioning is really all about should have no problems.

Haven't lost a byte yet! Maybe "half a wit" is the key. I trusted it fully through version 6. Wouldn't try it now, but then don't need to. I partition wisely when first loading an OS now.Quote

Mine is also older version and had no problems at all till this moment.
But I am afraid that next time something will happen. That people talk about Part. Magic so loudly negative.
I 'd like to survey what "the world" thinks about it.

I am doing it for others. And if I teach them wise partitioning from beginning I will reamin hungry. Peccavi,

The best way i can explain why there are so many "negative" stories out there about PM is the fact that:

A) It is a powerful program.

B) Being as such some people don't do their research before diving in and foolin around with.

In short it's one of those tools where most errors are likely to occur between the keyboard and the chair...

Hence the negative comments.

patio. Thanks everybody!

I am along with PM.

WHATEVER peolpe say.THIS IS WHAT I USENice One, mac...
Thanx !

patio.
