Answer» Trying to CONNECT my phone to my computer with a USB tether connection so that I can use my netbook while on the road within cell towers. I haven't been able to find a driver other than suggestion that you use DataConnect software. Links to DataConnect I have found do not lead to download of this software. Guessing that I will still need the driver if using this software as well unless it has drivers bundled with it. I attached a screenshot of what Windows thinks the hardware device is. I tried searching the web for the driver with no success.
Anyone out there tethering and know what software to use?
Cell Phone is a track phone with data plan LG100C ( LG Brand ) Netbook is Toshiba NB205 - Atom dual-core with 1GB Ram and Windows XP Home SP3
[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]Just made some progress... found this LG driver here, http://www.clockworkmod.com/tether/drivers now XP is happy with phone connected, BUT still unable to get out to web and IPConfig/all shows no connection. Do I need to use some sort of software now to CREATE the handshake?
[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]Good evening DaveLembke
I happy that you found the driver for your phone to work with your PC. I have done this but it has been in Vista and Windows7. PLUS when I did this it was done by bluetooth from my laptop to the bloothtooth in the cell phone.
Maybe you need to disable the laptops wireless card, and run the network wizard in XP to create a new connection? I don't know just a thought. The last TIME I did this in Vista all I did was disable all of the laptop network connections. Enabled the bluetooth connection on both devices and then it was connected. I did not use any 3rd PARTY software.
Not that this makes a difference all I used was a laptop HP G60, Bluetooth adapter (USB Dongle) and BlackBerry Tourch 9800.
I know that some Companies years ago did not like it (tethering) but I checked your cell phone and it was supported so I am thinking it has to be something simple. Did you try getting the driver right from LG instead of the ones that you found?
I just found the LG PC Suite 2.0.1.15 this should have the driver also http://lg-pc-suite.soft32.com/free-download?gclid=CO7ErP2C-rECFYTd4AodFBsAqQ
Hopefully this is all you need, Mike
