Solve : license question about old/ new software?? |
|
Answer» we are opening a small copy shop. do we need to buy fresh software and o.s.'s from the manufacturers? It would be better to order them from the manufacturers.thanks for the suggestion. in re win xp, i do not think i can get it from ms. would it make any DIFFERENCE to get xp from a vendor, even say office depot, or STAPLES?I'm not sure but I think you can. I know XP is still sold on some computers.apparently you can still get it from ms. thanks for the input. the worry about getting sued for not having enough licenses, would be stupid. the cost of getting sued would be catastrophic. not worth it. we'll spend a couple grand up front and forget it. thanks Quote from: chovig on July 07, 2008, 09:11:43 AM Sure, you can buy from such reputable vendors as Office Depot or Staples. Another good source, if you live in the U.S. is newegg.com; see http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=368&name=Operating-Systems Note: newegg.com sells both OEM and Retail versions of software. OEM means ORIGINAL Equipment Manufacturer. It costs less than Retail but it's supposed to be installed on one computer and never transferred to another computer, as it would be if you bought a new computer with Windows pre-installed. With Retail versions, you have the liberty of uninstalling it from one computer and installing it on another. thank you for POINTING out the diff kinds of versions. newegg looks good. thanksYou may want to also check some local University Bookstores. The Student discount programs are nice however they normally don't stock everything and may have to order them. Good Luck in your new shop. |
