Answer» I was wondering if there is software out there that will check your computer for SECURITY?
I mean one that will check to see if you have any holes in your computer that would make it easy for any attack.
If I install a FIrewall & Anti virus software should I be confident this is all I needed to do?
What do you suggest?1) GOOD AV software -- ALWAYS resident and always updated 2) Firewall optional. Windows has one built in and that's all I use combined with my router's NAT 3) I'd suggest scanning occasionally with MalwareBytes and/or Super Antispyware 4) I'd also suggest SpywareBlaster as a passive add-on (update it weekly)
And of course, SMART COMPUTINGThanks for that info.
In response to those I have a couple questions.
1) What is a good AV software to you? Paid and Free 2) ok, I understand that. Thats pretty much what I do too. 3) Should I consider buying these over the free versions? If so, can you EXPLAIN? 4) okQuote from: Jemrada on March 14, 2010, 09:49:13 AM Thanks for that info.

LOTS of good ones. I use Kaspersky (not cheap). Free, I believe the best are probably Avast & Avira - but I've never used a free AV so I'm not 100% certain. I've always believed that when it comes to AV, I want the best I can get and I'm not going to worry about cost. 2) ok, I understand that. Thats pretty much what I do too.

I don't see the need to do so, no. 4) ok
ok thanks again for your input.Sure thing. To add some information....I use avast! and it's been working GREAT since I installed it. I can't really comment on memory hogging though because I've got too much RAM. I don't think you can have too much RAM.
Also, some ISPs offer free commercial av programs to cut down on the number of calls to tech support.Quote from: rthompson80819 on March 14, 2010, 04:38:09 PMI don't think you can have too much RAM.
You can have too much RAM to comment on memory hogging though.
