recently, I recover a old computer as I  find a perfect cmi9738 driver for sound,

every thing looks OK at Device manager. but I try play cd/dvd ,no sound at all.

pls, help me check:

Where did you get the driver?
Is it only cds and dvds that don't have sound or is the computer completely silent?OP: windows xp pro sp2
driver: cmi official website:cmi9738 xp pro sp2  after install driver sound device  looks good
actually I try any mediu/even system sound did not appear.How about the speakers you're using? Are you sure they're working?Have you checked Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia to make sure :Mute" is not checked anywhere ? ?
Do you have a VOLUME icon on the Taskbar ? ?Make sure you've installed the right driver. The Shuttle drivers for that board can be found HERE. Click the 'Drivers' tab.yes. I have checked sound property/mute issue, ACCORDING to regular troubleshooting  in Microsoft Help Center mentioned.

But i will try Quaxo suggested motherboard driver later on. thanks every one out there to help.
