Solve : media player will not play my files?

Hi guys i downloaded a dvd rip FILE. that i downloaded with bittorennt which when i try and play it opens in media player but will not play coming up with an error message

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
can anybody help as i am a little new to all this

what kind of file it was u trying to play?

Hi Thanks for the Info when PROPERTIES is selected on the file it tells me that it is a video clip and opens with media player. I am currentley using MP10. i will try the link that you gave me and hopefully that may SORT it out...

dl65 Unfortunatley i have downloaded lots of video codecs but still they will not play.

just to clarify i downloaded file using bittorrent and has been saved on my computer as a video clip please please somebody help me.

If and when uyou are downloading a dvdrip file do you have to do anything with it after, do i need to convert anything all advice is greatly welcomed.

I would scan your machine for baddies.You shouldn't be downloading warez if you don't know what you're doing. simshi993052 ........ Have a look at this......

It's obvious you do not use torrents as 'torrents' are not media files. They are files that tell the BT client where to get the files.

Anything that comes from BitTorrent comes from Newsgroups or FTPs.

Like I said before; if you don't know what to do with the warez once you download them, you're not supposed to be getting them in the first place. MUCH like buying a car and not knowing how to drive it..

Anyhow, for future reference: the guy needs codecs. DivX most likely. Yeah i got the answer all you got to do is copy the bit file onto a 2 disc cd and play it on the windows media player i think that should work for you unless you got an old model like the school computers
