Answer» Is there a possible "limit" on the amount of times this software can be installed in multiple/ different computers ? The DVD has stopped working ~ it won't even spin inside the tray.... the dvd has some minor scratches, is less than a month old but; was passed around the office a lot... ? Some shareware softwares have limits on how MANY computers they can be installed on. As for your CD, does it work on another computer? If not, it is possible the data is corrupted or the side opposite from the very shine side is damaged.
I found out the scratching the shine side of the cd doesn't make the disc unusable. I used a knife and wrote my name in the cd and it still WORKED fine, still able to watch my movies on it. If you damage the side with the manufacture logo and where you can write stuff, it destroys the data on the disc. Thanks for this info, I'll keep watching just in case someone knows for sure but I did not know what you told me*... I'd give you a Karma point but they took away all of our FUN!
Now , I'll go look for a knife!!! If there's a limit, how does that work? Surely, there's no recording on the disk, itself, of the number of times it was used to install the software. How could there be, especially if it is used only in CD/DVD-ROM drives, not CD/DVD-RW drives?
I'd bet the disk is damaged. The fact that it won't even spin inside the tray seems to indicate this.
Carbon Dudeoxide, you've really got me wondering now. I may take some time to visit www.howstuffworks.com or search for some other references on how CDs and DVDs are made. You're saying the data is on the same side as the logo, the side that can also be used for labeling with marker or even printed on with some printers. So, is the shiny side just intended to be a mirror we can keep near our computers so that we can check our hair?
honvetops, let us know how the knife techniques works out. It scares me. As for your CD, does it work on another computer? << not sure, but NO
I tried yesterday to put on the mechanics puter, (wndow 98 old piece of you know what Micron!) like mine at work~ no spinning in the tray, it TRIES but it like skips low humm then stops ?
Mine no workie either!
I am guessing maybe 10 people all together got this thing installed on home puters/ laptops etc.... LAST NIGHT the boss lady took it home to try it on her desktop but > I had warned her it might not work, she gave it back to me this morning and said she tried everything and it would not work.....
(I "THINK" i had read what Warrior said about there can be limits to downloads on certain software, thats why I am asking.....)Well, i heavily scratched the shiny side of the CD using a compass and knife and it still worked although it took more time to load. I then scratched the logo side and then i couldn't use the disk because i scratched the shiny side off when i took the logo off. Id post pictures but i dont have any more cd's to spare.
