Solve : Missing Virus Definitions?

Answer»

I am running win xp pro sp2 (all current updates)

Symantec corp 10.1 antivirus. Everytime I shutdown/restart the computer it will flash and "end program" screen for a milisecond and say missing virus DEFINITIONS (i had to use my digital camera to capture it cause it was SO fast).

What could be causing this. I have deinstalled norton and obviously it no longer does this.. I also manually removed norton and still the error persists.

A little more about the computer

biostar t force nvidia nforce4 ultra chipset
AMD Opteron 146
Kingston ddr400 ram (1GB)
Seagate 160 SATAII
Nvidia geforce 6600gt
All the drivers are current. I was having troubles with the firewall till I fixed it. Also the comptuer is overclocked to 2.7ghz instead of the standard 2.0 .. i thought this may have been the problem BUT my other computer works fine overclocked with norton and removing the overclock has NO effect on the situation whatsoever. There are no clear system events to see what the problem is. The virus defense seems to be working.. i used tests sites and it caught the virus problems and spyware. I know it is norton but I am not really wanting to dump the program since FINDING a decent, low resource, antiV program is hard to do.fedge...... If you cant figue Norton out ......LOL why dont you D/L AVG .....its free and works very well .....get it at ...... http://www.majorgeeks.com/download886.html try it you'll like it .

DL65 I have this thing about GIVING up though.. it works on my system but the new computer is flakey... I want to know why.
