Solve : MS Outlook email problems?

Answer»

OK so here is an update to the problem. It is related to the size of the emails. Anything with more than a few sentences will not send. Is this restriction at our end with some dodgy settings or at the ISP with some crazily low settgins??? Any help gratefully received.

My sisters pc can send and receive plain text emails from her 3 accounts. She can receive HTML emails but can no longer reply to them. She cannot create HTML emails. She is no longer using MSWord as her email editor. I have repaired Office; no joy. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office; no joy. All the updates are installed, SR-3 for office; no joy. The pc used to work fine. Running XP and Office 2000. I have reset the router (she has 2 pc's) and the other pc works fine, which was built using the same software. We have checked the settings for smtp with the isp and there are no problems. She uses Kaspersky AH+AV as do I. Please help.Quote

What HAPPENS when you try and send?

Your sister's problem sounds like an OPTIONS setting, tell her to check them. She's been on to the ISP who put her onto the router people D-Link. They were a great help. She now has lost all internet connections and mail as the router no longer functions. I'll reset the factory default this evening and get the router going. They did change the MTU and MRU settings (amongst others) to 1200 each. Was 1400 and 1492 respectively.

When you try to send a mail with a small amount of (plain) text the pc CONNECTS to the ISP server and hangs. The ISP server times out and she gets the time out message. The mesage just sits in the Outbox.

An empty (plain) text email with just the address will send OK.Are you having problems with two computers, hers & yours, or just one?She has two pc's connected vis the router to the net. One was fine the other not! Anyway to cut a LONG story short it is working again. The boys at D-Link were very good and followed up with a response from someone who changed some settings REMOTELY and it all works again. So it must have been the router But why only affecting one pc and not the other? Anyway she is happy and I'm confused, but's normal
Thanks for your help Fed, good to know there are people trying to help.
