Solve : Ms Word became unable to open?

Answer»

I have a desktop running Windows Visa Ultimate and Word 03 Professional. All new six months ago. Worked great until last week. Now Word will not completely open. When clicked on it STARTS searching for 'features'. Then says they are on a network and unavailable. One FILE it always asks for is pro11.msi. I have been unable to discover a remedy and tried several.
Any help appreciated.Does this problem coincide in any way with any changes or additions?

That .msi file is a Microsoft installation file but not sure why it is asking for it now!  Do you happen to have an install disk for Word? - if so I'd do a removal of it (Word) and reinstall.  If it came with the machine already on then not so easy.

''Tried several remedies'' - what have you tried so far?OLD program............buy new software and stop cheapskating.......... Quote from: merlin on August 23, 2008, 05:22:23 PM

That's a ridiculous comment.  Office 2003 should work fine with Windows Vista.  If Office 2003 is still serving them well, there's no need to go out and buy an upgrade.  So, suggestions should be focused on resolving the problem with Office 2003.Re ''old'' software - I am not sure why for some the latest always has to be best ..... I still use Office 2000 and an old image app over 10 years old ... so I am a cheapskate too!

There are and have been many occasions when an updated app has come out and it is so different it presents a whole new set of challenges, without necessarily giving any great advantages.  If an app does what is wanted - which is the priority, then fail to see why ''latest'' has to either best or even necessary.

Anyways - to OP - I still think if you have that Word disk - uninstall and TRY a reinstall - as one option anyways.I guess updates just might have influenced things but - hmmm, no disk.  Right now not sure what options remain.

Let's see if anyone can come up with other ideas - sorry not very helpful.I don't know of disks being ''used up'' ...... they are usually read-only.

Perhaps a look in Ebay might find something.  Worth a try.How important are the other components of MS Office?  Do you use Access, the database?  Do you use Outlook?

If Word is your main need and you can do without Access and Outlook, you could make the step up to Word 2007 by buying Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.  If you live in the U.S., here's a great price on it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116135
