winamp doesnt convert music....
i think i found a program called switchconverting from one bitrate to another in any compression scheme is GOING to result in piss-poor quality in comparison to ripping the music again from the original source, for those files you have the original source of. Even burning them to a AUDIO CD and re-ripping them to a lower bitrate MP3 is bound to give better results.i have too many it would take forever! accually i was using one program to do it and it still sounded great! but the program stopped workingwell, it's only Piss-poor to a audiophile.

I can HEAR the difference between my original Music CDs and the ripped 192Kbps MP3. the bass has some slight distortion in parts with the mp3; not enough to lose sleep over, of course.i have audio-phile grade speakers does that mean i will hear the differenceQuote from: computeruler on December 31, 2008, 11:25:54 AM

i have audio-phile grade speakers

that doesn't even mean anything. This one works pretty good.

how about instead of 128kbps; have you considered variable bit-rate?what other bit-rate? because i need them to be smaller size to fit on my zune and 128 seems to be pretty good quality for me and like 2mb smaller a songQuote from: computeruler on January 01, 2009, 11:21:57 AM

VBR. it USES a dynamic bitrate depending on how much is necessary.how does it know how much is nessasary? It consults with WikiPedia as it's sampling and asks "what does this song need ? ? "Quote from: patio on January 02, 2009, 08:42:08 AM

No, that's WBR, WikiBiteMe... I mean, WikiBitRate.

I'm not exactly sure to be honest; I imagine it examines the spectrum required for each time step.
