Solve : my display hardware isnt functioning.?

i have a problem with my display device ( nvidia GFORCE 6200 ) basically when i run a game or application i get an error message saying " a problem OCCURRED initializing direct draw. HARDWARE acceleration maybe disabled, please run dx diag" but when i GO ontu dx diag and click test direct draw my computer freezes and i have to reboot I'm not sure how to solve this problem, could anyone here help? :]Which version of DirectX are you using? DX 9.0c shuld be the latest for XP.
