There are many other contributors to the CH forums who have much more experience than I. But if you don't/can't/won't respond to questions very little help will be coming your way. My first thought about your problem is that it not directly associated with Windows 98 but with a hardware problem, POSSIBLY a failure of the hard drive affecting the boot records. Or it could be that the bios/cmos is incorrectly set (have any alterations been made since the last time the pc booted correctly?). It may be that hardware connections simply need to be re-seated. We can make a diagnosis based only on the information you provide, if such information is not provided then help will not be forthcoming. The first thing to do is to ensure that necessary files are backed-up securely. To do that it might be necessary to hook up the Win.98 pc's hard drive to the XP pc so we'll probably need the hardware specs of the XP pc as well. Please pay attention to Patio's post. |
