Solve : Naming Excel column headings?

Answer»

Sorry for such a basic question, but I cannot find any help in the Excel "help" section.   My worksheet has column headings of A,B,C, etc. but I'd like to change them to meaningful names. How is this done?   Also, can the same be done for row headings (1, 2, 3, etc)?

Thank you in advance! No, you can't do that.  Excel does allow using numbers instead of LETTERS for column headings but does not allow any custom or text LABELS to be used.   And, it does not allow changing row indicators from anything other than numbers.

REALLY, there's no need to do that anyway.  Just USE row 1 to type in your column headings.  Likewise, you can use column 1, or any column, to type row labels.  By doing it this way, you really have sorting options that you would not have if Excel allowed what you wanted and you did that instead of doing what I am suggesting.
