IOBit SmartDefrag has an option to TURN the computer off after defragging. I suggest running the defrag at night and have it turn off automatically. If scandisk never finishes leave it on overnight... If that doesn't work travel to the drive manuf. website and DLoad their FREE diagnostics... Follow the site INSTRUCTIONS on creating a bootable CD. Boot to the CD and run the long test...that drive may be heading South and you need to find out if you can trust it to your data...
