Answer» Hi this is my first post!
I've got a Pentium 500Mhz, one 13GB harddrive,....etc quite old as you can tell
Anyway i got myself into a big trouble, wondering if there is anyone can help. Here it goes:
1- I spent many horrific hours tryin to install a fake copy of Windows XP. Midway via the installiation the computer SAYS theres an error on the CD, and restarts the PC. Then the installtion process begins automatically when the system BOOTS up. Then again detects an error on the CD, therefore restarts the PC again. As you can see this continues as a never ending cycle. Anyway ENOUGH about that, i gave up installing Windows Xp and decided to install windows ME instead. Here is where the real problem begins (PLEASE HELP)
2- I formated the C drive first, by using one of my old boot startup disks, so that i can have a clean installation of Win ME. However to my horror, when i restarted the PC, the Windows XP Installaton still occurs.
3- to get around this problem i decided to use the Fdisk command from the boot disk and deleted the partition Drive or DOS drive and then create a new DOS partition or Logical Dos Drive. Then restarted the PC.
4- Finally, when all was goin so well, i ran setup.exe from the CD drive. and it asks for win ME to install. I say yes, but it then says 15728640 bytes are needed on the C drive. I am sure i got more space than that. Whats goin on?
PLease i really need help. ThanxOK. 15,728,640 bytes is about 15,728KB or 15 MB. go to FDISK and choose "display partition information." If your partition isn't big enough, your computer may have problems.cheerz for the repile.
I ran Fdisk/status to show the status of my drive: (below shows the screen, well nearly)
Fixed disk Drive Status
Disk...Drv..Mbytes...Free...Usage .1...............8025...............100% ..........C:.....8025.....................
PLEASE HELP,, i really dont know why the setup says my C harddrive doesn't have enough space, it shows above that i got 8025mb. *censored* is goin onyou have to delete the old partitions first?>http://www.newlogic.co.uk/kbase/fdisk/page1.htmIf I UNDERSTAND correctly, even though you formatted, Windows XP still attempts to install after booting?
Did you remove the CD? Did you check to see if you may have installed Windows XP on ANOTHER partition/hard drive?rockrock008.....well it appears that you have a 15gb hard drive.....I dont think you formatted the entire drive .....because formatting removes all data and programs ........there is no way that winxp could still be there......unless you left the bogus disk in the cd drive .....Does your boot disk have both FORMAT and FDISK on it as well as the necessary cd drivers to start up your pc......If it has your all set to do it......Insert your boot disc and power up .......now select FDISK ...choose option 4 to display all partitions.........Next remove partitions.. Now format the disk ......you should be formatting the whole thing. No you should be ready to install win .....so when you get the A: prompt type D: or whatever your cd drive is .....and when its displayed ......type either setup or install and win shold begin to load ........Win XP is about 200 mgs or less .....I would think ME is similar. And by the way ,I have a P3 500 ....running XP with SP2 on one of my pcs and it works great.
let us know how you make out dl65 cheerz for the help guys( or girls).
I finally solved the problem. The reason why the computer wouldnt install Win ME, was because i forgot to format the system again so that the space turns into FAT space.
Thanx again for the repiles!
