Answer»

well i found this old computer and thought ide get it running again, its gotta fresh copy of xp pro on it, but i cant seem to get the sound to work properly. i used this site http://tinyurl.com/dye6pb and downloaded the AD1885 for xp an its telling me "Driver not found, please reboot you system an run this program again." any help will get greatly appreciated.Do you know the manufacturer and model number of this computer?

Is the sound onboard or a separate sound card?  If a separate sound card, do you know the manufacturer and model number of the sound card?its a dell GX50 an its sound cards seems to be built on to the mother boardWhat's the Service Tag#?how do i find that? sry im not the smartest person in the world when it comes to computers You sid you downloaded the driver from tinyurl and your sound isn't working properly...What do you mean..."not working properly"?

Here's the link to your driver from Dell:  Analog Devices AD1885 Integrated Audio

If that one doesn't work, there's a link on that page for Other versions of that driver...you may want to try that one, as well.

Keep us posted...

BTW...Service tag is usually on a sticker on the back of the unit.well..it has no sound lol and the drivers i did down load told me "no driver found reboot you system an run this program again", ill try the site u posed an post back ina minOK well i tryed both of the site you gave me and itl go into the soundMAX installation but when it gets to 99% it still has an error message pop up saying Driver not found! please reboot you system and run this program again.Sorry...LOL...I'm still half asleep.  Must pour more coffee in head.

Have you checked Device Manager in Control Panel/System/Hardrware Tab...to see if there are any other hardware issues...usually you'll see a yellow question MARK, if there is.

If you had the Service Tag, you could go to Dell's support site and find the drivers for that Optiplex.

Then follow these instructions for the order of installing the drivers:  How to install drivers

Could be you need to install the chipset before installing the sound drivers for that motherboard...or..if that doesn't work, you may need to install another sound card.lol tis ok xD, it dont seem like theres any hardwear issues. and there was only 1 sticker on the back of the pc an it had a barcode above it w/ this number below 42g5t11Download, install and run Everest Free:  http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Post your hardware log scan log in your next post, please.ok i downloaded it but how exactly do i get what you looking for? >.>Once you download Everest, you'll need to install it...just double-click the .exe file.

Once it's installed, it will AUTOMATICALLY scan your system.  What you want to do is select "Report" from Everest's toolbar and select plain text formatting.  It will generate a report.

There's no need to copy/paste the whole report here...

The only information I need is the information contained in the Motherboard section and the Multimedia section.

On another note...while you're at it...go into your BIOS and search for any setting that may have disabled your onboard sound...this could also be causing the issue...and I forgot to mention it.  You may have to fumble your way around BIOS to see if you can locate this setting.  If you find it and it's disabled...you may want to enable it.  If there is no setting...then, it may have been disabled by jumpers on the motherboard...but we'll tackle that later.

My main concern is the hardware information I requested...and the BIOS settings.

One other thing you could try is to go into Device MANGER and remove all of the devices found under the Sound category...and then reboot your machine.

Keep us posted...i think this is what you need, this is the motherboard thing, there was nothing for the multimedia and i couldent find the BIOS

If you have nothing listed under Multimedia in the Everest report...then there is no audio hardware installed...or it has been disabled in BIOS.

To enter BIOS...you need to press either the Del key or the F2 key on your keyboard while the computer is booting...in order to get into BIOS.  Again, you will need to fumble around in your BIOS settings to see if you can find a setting that has either endable/disable sound.  We want to enable it if it is disabled.
