Answer»

my pc wont acknowledge the cd rom  and cd rw i have attached to it,when i click on my computer they do not show up, They are a compaq cdr 2440mb and crd 8322b,can any1 HELP plz.
Do they appear in your BIOS?i dont know much about computers. how do i find out if its in my BIOS?
What happened prior to this? It would be very unusual for both to go out at the same time.my brother gave me a copy of nero to install but didnt realise it was an OEM version till i tried it. it started to go through the MOTIONS of installing but then said it could only be used with the driver it was sold with. the drives are in the device manager when i start in safe mode but not otherwise.
im using windows 98What computer or motherboard make/model? The BIOS will be some key(s) you press at BOOT prior to the WIndows logo. Usually it tells you on screen. Just look to see if the CDROM's are shown there.

What operating system? If XP you can do a system restore to an earlier time.im using a compaq pentium 2 with windows 98. when i enter setup before it boots up, the boot order only shows floppy as 1st, hard drive 2nd, pnp device#1 3rd. my onboard devices are parallel port, serial port a, serial port b, floppy controller, other input controller, audio device. Are these CDROM drives new additions to the hardware? Or something that just QUIT working?

Is this a Deskpro EN or some other model? Some earlier Deskpro's were VERY picky about ADDING things, and required CS jumpers. What are your jumper settings? They just stopped working when i tried to install nero. its a compaq deskpro. i dont know what you mean by jumper settings, can you explain.
If you didn't physically do anything inside the case the jumpers are not an issue. I am assuming that everything worked fine before. Please correct me if this is wrong.

What is your operating system? Did you uninstall the software? Or did it never fully install?everything was fine before. it didnt fully install coz it was an oem version that came with my brothers pc. windows 98.
Well, the issue remains that the CDROM device must show up in the BIOS before Windows can begin to  recognize it. You do not see it listed there? And there is no way to include it?i dont know how to include it
