Answer» Hey,
Just cracked my new MY-Link USB External Optical Drive out of the BOX and hooked it up to my Asus (1005HA) Netbook via USB and nothing - no recognition at all. And I have no idea how to make it work, I know I'll just GET tied up in knots so I'm hoping someone on here might ...
I'd appreciate if anybody here who knows could help me?
Thanks!
What type of notebook and what operating systemThe netbook's an Asus 1005ha with preloaded Windows XP SP3...
I've managed to get the netbook to recognise the drive. Except now it won't play the DVD films (region 2, original copies). Any suggestions more than welcome thanks! It probably needs to be formatted first... Windows will not recognise an unformmated drive... Use the cD that shipped with the drive to prep it or if you didn't get one DLoad the FREE tools from the drive manuf. site.
What a waste of typing...this is an Optical drive ? ?
Sorry i missed that...what player are you using ? ? DLoad and try VLC Player. Patio I'm using VLC player Woop woop, it's up and running smooooth son. Thanks very much for your time and words my man!Hi again,
I thought I'd buried this one but not so...
My netbook recognises my external DVD RW drive but not any discs (DVDs (films)/CD (MUSIC)) I pop in.
Patio suggested reformat? I would but the manuf don't have a site and I obviously can't the disc that came with it, i'm screwed. Could anyone help? You may have a defective optical drive, try to get them to replace it.

Patio had misunderstood temporarily, he was thinking of an external HDD, I think.Yeah the discs are sound man. Thanks for your feedback anyway Al. Yeah I think I will, I've just sent a email through to the sellers! It's just frustrating when you buy brand new kit and it doesn't work but I guess it's only as reliable as the man who made it!It's not that common for something to be DOA, but it does happen.
That's ACTUALLY my primary reason for shopping locally, I might spend a couple of dollars more, but it's easier to get service and support(usually).
Good luck, let us know.
