Answer» like lots of other people, i've gotten netflix. i've had it for a while and some what recently, they offered the option of being able to watch movies on your computer.
this is what you NEED to watch the movies: Minimum Requirements * Computer running Windows XP with SERVICE Pack 2 or higher, or Windows Vista * Internet Explorer version 6 or higher * Windows Media Player version 10 or higher * An active broadband connection to the Internet * 1.0 GHz processor * 512 MB RAM * 3 GB free hard disk drive space Recommended in addition to minimum requirements * An active broadband Internet connection of at least 1.5 Mbps * 1.5 GHz processor * 1 GB RAM
this is what i have: * windows XP media center edition 2005 with SP 2 (i've right clicked my computer, properties and it says SP 2, i've double checked to MAKE sure) * IE 6 (i tried downloading IE 7, but it keeps saying that there's an error. anyone know how that could be fixed too?) * WMP 11 (had 10, so downloaded new version) * 28.8 GB free space * 1.8 Mbps (took speed test online) * 1.66 GHz processor * 980MHz, .99 GB RAM
my computer: dell inspiron E1505 (laptop), just over a year old
so this is the problem-- i called netflix tech support for watch now and they said that i do have all i need, but apparently, my computer is sending out a signal saying i have SP1 instead of SP2 (this is all according to the technician). then i called dell and they said that they could fix it..for $120 (partially because my warranty is up and they don't do software support). so i decided not to pay an outrageous amount of money and see what i could find online.
if anyone knows a solution, that'd be super OR if there's possibly a way around how they do their movie viewing.
Have you gone to the Windows Update site and downloaded all critical updates? This is the SP2 page... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
Check these out to ensure that you actually do have SP2 installed.
Also...have you actually tried viewing the movies? Exactly what happens?yes, i have tried to watch a movie.
that's what happens when i tried to watch a movie.
i went to the microsoft website, clicked "express" install. all (34) updates failed. What protection do you have? When was the last time you scanned?
You might want to post a HijackThis log in the malware section.i scan every night with AVG. i have hijack this from a problem i had a while ago. i'll post a log into the malware section and see if they can find anything. THANKSI responded to your other post and you don't SEEM to have any serious threats that might be causing this issue. And HijackThis shows you having SP2. I have to admit, I'm a bit unsure about this one. But you might want to give the following a read... http://www.compu-help.us/1.htm
Let's see if anyone has any other suggestions that might help.I went to the link you posted and when i went into c:\program files\windowsupdate there weren't any folders in there, including the "V4" folder mentioned in that link. there's nothing at all in the windows update folder. i went to the troubleshooting link and i didn't see anything that would help. a lot of the topics have to do with error messages and the only message i get is "installation failed."
