Solve : NIC Not Function After Reboot?

Answer»

I just reinstalled XP Pro (clean install) on a home-built 4-yr-old box. 1 G of RAM, 2 hard DRIVES, AMD processor.

When I reboot, there is no network connection (cable modem, ROUTER). I go to the Device Manager, uninstall the NIC, search for hardware changes, and XP reinstalls the NIC. Everything is fine until I reboot. I've tried reinstalling the driver, rolling back the driver and nothing seems to change this. The NIC is a Asound PCI 10/1000.

I had this same problem a couple of years ago and finally cured it -- but I cannot remember exactly what I did.

What am I doing wrong?

PeterRe-install your MBoard drivers...Tried reinstalling the MB drivers to no avail. Actually, I did it twice over a couple of days.

Like I mentioned, this happened a couple of years ago. I have some vague recollection that it was coming up with an incorrect IP address or something like that. And that uninstalling it and letting XP discover it again caused it to get a CORRECT address.

Does that make any sense?

PeterConfigure your connection so that the DHCP server and Gateway point to the routers IP address. And if 2K_dummy's advice doesn't work grab a brand new NIC card and install it.
