Solve : Norton Anti-virus VS AVG Anti-virus? |
|
Answer» Hello, I was once with AVG and then a knowledgeable friend suggested Norton. Norton costs money, AVG doesn't. Any opinions on whether AVG can do the job as good as Norton? THXS Micromos That's all you're going to get - opinion. Subjective opinions. My personal opinion is that Norton is better than AVG - but not as good as Kaspersky. If you're willing to spend money, in my opinion Kaspersky products are the best. Give MSE a try...Free. Personally i have zero use for any Norton/Symantic product... I agree, but i think, for free, that Avast is very good...................in my opinion. Most people with negative opinions of Norton products haven't used them - at least not for several years. There's no doubt but that Norton went through a tough time in the early 2000's, but in recent years they've come back strong and their products are highly RATED by experts and everyday users alike. Thanks for everyone's advice. This forum is my go to place. I think I will go back to AVG only because of the cost. Being retired, I have to watch where I spend my nickels. Micromos If you are going to use a free AV then I suggest either Microsoft Security Essentials (as Patio suggested), or Avast or AVIRA. They are all better than AVG.I use AVG-Free on all my computers except one old one that runs Win2k with Avast. AVG works for me, an occasional false positive, but they now have a way to report these directly to AVG. With the false positives, at least you know it's doing something. I used Avira for a while & it never reported anything, so you wonder if it's really working.I got tired of re-installing Avast every 30 days....never could get it to accept the Free registration # they kept issuing via e-mail... I'm quite happy and impressed with MSE since i switched approx. 6 months ago...Quote from: patio on September 01, 2011, 06:49:14 AM I got tired of re-installing Avast every 30 days....never could get it to accept the Free registration # they kept issuing via e-mail...Yeah, their registration procedure for the free version is something that has probably caused some lose of users. That's something they ought to review. But, I've been using Avast for over a year with Windows 7 and am quite pleased with it. I also now have it on my Win XP system. Paid versions: Norton Internet Security (don't go for 360, overpriced and has features most people won't need) Kaspersky Internet Security (also very nice) Free: The free version of Avast! is the only one I would suggest. I used to love AVG, but started GETTING false-positives and some things it was just missing altogether. In my opinion, since you're asking, I've been using the paid version of Norton for the past year. Before that, I used Kaspersky for years. I switched out of curiosity really. I do like Kaspersky better though for several reasons. Their local support is fantastic (I'm in Thailand, and Norton doesn't have local support here) and the ease of use of their interface. Norton's isn't too hard to use, but I STILL like Kaspersky better.AVG 2012 has been released. Uses less resources than previous version. Been trying MSE on Win7 machine; it works as advertised.hi for waht it's worth. I've always had problems with the free ones, have used Norton since late 90's, system works, didn't try 360 bad press, now I use internet security, I've not had any problems. People don't like norton because it slow the machine a little, I rather have that than problems. The CHOICE is your's. it's like buying a car ..Quote from: pohhop on October 01, 2011, 06:51:23 AM People don't like norton because it slow the machine a little, I rather have that than problems. Not slowing mine at all. |
